PEARLS AND BOWS

I've been super excited about making cute hair pieces and jewellery since our jewellery club's last meeting (I'll post some pics soon!!). Before I've just put some ideas up to my sketch book and waited for the "right time" to start making but last weekend, after buying some cute laces, pearls etc. from a flea market, I got bitten by a Crafting Bee. Here's some pieces that I've made so far.

Headband made in the jewellery club.

Necklace made in the jewellery club. One friend reserved this for her wedding dress, yie!

Hair pins.

Gotta have some bling bling !

I got bored to my old, boring black beret and one silent day at work updated it a bit - this is how it turned out!

Check It Out: A Love Story

OInk

Now that Finland's swine flu caused death toll is at five, are you afraid of it? Are you going to have the vaccination or do you already have it?

I'm propably not going to take it. I'm a bit suspicious towards all sort of vaccinations and medicines.

Yeah. Not taking it. Propably not.

Package Design

Here's couple inspirational pictures of package design and then a couple of my recent favourites. I've been drinking Clipper's organic, Fair Traid teas now for a while and I have to admit that I got hooked mainly because of the packaging design. So cute! Yes, I'm vain (don't want ugly packages in my cupboards) but who isn't about some things. So yes, guilty as charged! Package design affects my bying decision and if I have to choose between two similar items, I usually buy the nicer looking even it'd be a bit more expensive. Especially when I'm choosing between a normal and organic/Fair Trade product.

The coffee package is designed by a Finnish-English illustrator Sanna Annukka - I just adore her prints for Marimekko and really want that box to decorate my kitchen shelf!

Brian Dettmer's Wonderful World

Check out these amazing paper works by Brian Dettmer - he's great! I got soooo so inspired by his work since I've had a small pile of some funny books waiting to be worked with. One is a book that I found from a flea market, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, 1936. It's one of the first bestselling self-help books ever published but now it seems more like a joke, check this out for example:

SEVEN RULES FOR MAKING YOUR HOME LIFE HAPPIER
  1. Don't nag. Check.
  2. Don't try to make your partner over. Hmm, okay... right.
  3. Don't criticize. NEVER!!
  4. Give honest appreciation. Check.
  5. Pay little attentions. Well, a little then.
  6. Be courteous. Of course, sir.
  7. Read a good book on the sexual side of marriage. Can anyone recommend one? Kamasutra? No?

Tigers Conquer the Big Apple

IVANAhelsinki's designer Paola Suhonen directed a short movie "Tiger Tights Army" back in the summer. It has now been selected to screen in the 6th Annual Big Apple Film Festival, one of the coolest film festivals in the world. The movie will be shown Friday, 6th November. Leading role is played by Justin Tranter, the lead singer of a glam-rock band Semi Precious Weapons.

"Experimental fashion musical about the eighties legendary love punk movement leader, who was known for wearing a hot pair of tiger tights. He mysteriously disappeared while shopping in New York, and the only thing this pop icon left behind was a pair of these cult tights. And a group of cult leaders and lovers still missing him." Read more about the movie here. And see my tiger tights here!
